YIIK: A Postmodern RPG is one of my favorite games.

I believe that it is a good, well made experience, with fun to be had outside of irony.

You can call me a contrarian, but it's true. This, weird, about 20 hour long experience has been a--what webdwellers call--hyperfixation of mine for the years it has since released.

I could go on about how fun the gameplay is, but I'm only speaking about base-game YIIK for now, pre 1.5 (I.V.), and my statement would be a lie.

I.V. changes so much that I'll be saving it for the last few pages of this Area of Interest.

To put it simply, base YIIK's combat was bad. Really bad. It mixed Paper Mario attack timings with occasional Warioware minigames for using skills and dodging big attacks. On paper, that can do well. But, the way YIIK does it just feels janky. Stunted. ...Bad.

The old fights were also subject to very long loading times, which often caused frustration or broke up story tension.

But enough YIIK bashing. Doing so brings a tear to my eye and a kick to my frail heart.

The game stars Alex, Michael, and... well... For this page, I will only go over Alex and Michael. We'll meet the others later. (-ᴗ ´- )

This isn't your mama's RPG, mostly because Alex is a DICK.

This ungrateful college graduate's first mission is to retrieve groceries at the request of his mom. Yes, to even this he bitches and moans.

Yes, Alex believes that the world revolves around him. ...I mean, he's not that wrong. The universe does.

Throughout the game he neglects his basic duties, such as getting a job, instead chasing out mysteries with his rag-tag group of people who barely tolerate him.

The first to join Alex's... meanderings is Michael K, Alex's long time friend. Although Alex can't remember much about him.

Michael's online persona is VERAformer. He created ONISM1999, the forum for paranormal happenings. He posts casually, giving possibly the only tidbits of info for the Michael before YIIK's events.

Michael isn't all he seems. Stitched into reality for ulterior pruposes. YIIK's Michael K isn't the one Alex knows...

For now--Is that a cat? Its got a funny looking mustache...

H-hey! It just nabbed the rest of my review! Go after it!

WebZINE #1: Frankton Digest

Frankton. Hometown to one Libral Arts major, Alex Eagleston, and one photography enthusiast, Michael K.

But, most importantly, this area houses famous Zine creator Matt Hawkins, to whom I deticate this Zine. Which is definitely not a slapdashed article.

Places of Interest

Scenic Frankton features a variety of shops, such as:

Stop by the local Pawn Shop to give away your goods or to purchase items of various intentions. Remember, the building is as only as sketchy as the items you sell to it are! ...Did I mention our rampant street punk violence yet?

Items of Note

Donate to Matt Hawkins' Zines and keep checking up on him, and you'll recieve 5 Mystical Threads. With this gear, you'll be taking down those pesky Twisted Beings with ease. This is one investment that you shouldn't miss out on!

"A typical twenty-something. He's just like you, in an alternate reality."

Michael K.

"An old friend from high school. He's as smart as he looks!"
Is that a cat...?
